" 'Connecticut’s housing shortage is among the most severe in the country,' Lamont said in an early morning statement Friday, vowing to sign it when it reaches his desk. 'It is driving up costs for working families, deterring businesses from investing or growing, and worsening homelessness. While we have made significant steps forward in recent years to increase our housing stock, we need to do more to address this urgent need.'
The Senate vote culminated the two-day special session that also created a $500 million contingency fund to deal with expected funding shortages amid the uncertainty of Washington budget cutting and mixed messages from the White House. That bill passed 27-8 with Republican Sens. Heather Somers of Groton and Tony Hwang of Fairfield joining the Democratic majority. "
